Here we will see how to create Technician categories

Before any technicians can be set up in the system the labour categories must be set up.

This is the type of Labour that is charged onto Jobs which can vary depending on the nature of the Business.

The most popular categories are Retail and Trade and Internal. Others can be specific for certain customers of yours. An example of this would be large customers having a special rate.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

To Change, Insert (add) or Delete Labour Categories go to Maintenance > Labour Categories

JOB labour Category Maintenance

  1. Keycode - the unique identifier of the labour category
  2. Description - the description of the labour category
  3. Non Job? - only available with time clocking
  4. Units per Hour – Labour Categories can be set with different units per hour. This determines the units in which labour is charged out.

    For Example: Units Per Hour
    If set @ 1 then 1 hour = 1 unit
    If set @ 4 then 1 hour = 4 units 1 unit = 15 minutes
    If set @ 6 then 1 hour = 6 units 1 unit = 10 minutes
    If set @ 10 then 1 hour = 10 units 1 unit = 6 minutes
    1. Default is 10 units per hour
  5. Tick if you want to be able to discount the rate

it is suggested to keep all your rates at the same units per hour -

Non Job Category Maintenance

Non jobs are set-up for sites with Time Clocking and used when technicians are not clocked onto a job.

Typical non jobs would be cleaning, R&M (Repairs and Maintenance), holiday, sick leave, training, lunch and early finish.

  1. Keycode - the unique identifier of the labour category
  2. Description - the description of the labour category
  3. Non Job? - only available with time clocking
  4. Units per Hour – Non jobs can only be in 60 units per hour (1 minute per unit), so we can track them accurately.
  5. Paid or not paid - i.e. Lunch and Early Finish is an un-paid break, but cleaning is paid
  6. There are 5 options available here.

Blank, Sick, Holiday, Training or Other

  • NB: There are two options for non-productive time that will affect the ‘Labour Hours Summary’ report in different ways, Other or Blank
    • If it is left blank then the report will show this time as Idle and lower the technician’s productivity
    • With type "Other" selected the time will is deemed productive.
